Thanking a friend today for being a good example is quite different from thanking a friend for something he or she has done for you or for something he or she has given to you. Yet how often do we do that very thing with the God Who is a Refuge for the oppressed?
Yes, thanking God for what He does and for the many blessing He gives to us is important, but it is also important to thank Him for Who He is. Take time for a “Praise Walk” this weekend to focus on—and be grateful for—all that God is!

Though we can’t truly wrap our finite minds around it, God, the Father of the Fatherless, is also omnipresent. He is with my friend Laura when she is in Bangladesh; He is with my friend Miranda in Mexico and my friend Beth in Tanzania; He is with my spouseless friends in Brazil and China; and He is indeed the ever-present Father for each of these dear men and women who have accepted His plan for them to serve Him away from immediate family and long-time friends.
They would be the first to tell you that they do not call serving God a sacrifice—it is their joy. But they deserve our thanks today for sacrificing their “familiar” lives and for representing the rest of us in the family of God by sharing the gospel in countries we may never see.

Throughout the Thirty Days of Gratitude are four days on which a relative is designated as the recipient of your gratitude. You may need to—and may want to—thank several relatives on these days in order to fit them all in this month! Or, you might just want to select a few to thank in specific ways this month since you frequently express your gratitude to your family members.
Why is that we tend to neglect expressing “formal” thanks to our family? Take time today to be intentional in thanking someone in your family for their kindness, for the lessons they have taught you, or maybe just for their love!

Today’s gratitude recipient doesn’t need your pity. He or she needs your gratitude for reflecting grace in the midst of trials, for living a life for God’s glory, or simply for giving to others through his or her generosity of spirit.
While it would seem easy—and often justifiable—to curl up in a ball and use the excuse of being alone, many widows and widowers choose to believe that, regardless of their painful earthly loss, God is “most worthy of praise.” For that example of a life of praise, they deserve your heartfelt thanks today. (Remember: time and prayer are two of the greatest gifts you can give!)
